10th May - Ancient Woodland and Mental Health
One of my favourite places in East Suffolk is some Ancient Woodland that's been left untouched for a very long time. The oak trees here are amazingly thick and the range of greens in spring is just lovely. Stepping into this woodland is like taking a bath in calmness and tranquillity. I particularly like these two oaks that seem to be leaning on each other, providing a support.
I think like many places we suffered a dry spring and I wonder if these trees are stressed by that and the wider issue of climate change. In this Mental Health Awareness week perhaps this is good metaphor for us - that we do need to lean on each other in times of stress. I don't lean on trees but joining them for a morning is wonderful time for destressing - I hope they realise.
