11th April - Types of Mud
One of the 'joys' of living near the river Deben and it's saltmarshes is that there is plenty of mud. Usually it's the soft smelly type but that also has the advantage of being the kind that attracts the birds - not that I'm any kind of bird watcher but the sounds they make contribute to the special feeling of the marshes.

Anyway if there are different types of snow there also need to be different names for types of mud. For instance there's this soft stuff and then the type that has a deceptively crusty top - it still means you can sink in although photographically they add completely different feelings. I like to look at then both the soft stuff seems more at peace but the cracked stuff always has an anguished feeling. Perhaps that should be called grumpy mud!
