Statement of intent
The Deben is one of the most picturesque rivers in the East of England. This small tidal estuary is the home to a variety of landscapes which have become a haven for recreational use. From the harbour at Woodbridge and the sailing villages downstream the river is bounded by low wooded mud cliffs and saltmarshes before reaching sea.

These images show the quieter side of the Deben – the peaceful moments of calm when big skies and morning colours are reflections in calm, sometimes still, waters. When isolated boats stand out against backgrounds of serene morning mists and warm light with just occasional ripples to remind us the surface isn’t glass. It's where reeds point to wading birds and empty buoys simply wait.
This panel presents these moments of tranquility using the richness and subtly of low sunlight to illuminate them.
